Welcome to the V2C2 website, an opportunity for all members of the Rice community to provide their ideas and feedback that will inform the university’s efforts to develop a strategic plan for the next 5 to 10 years. When I arrived at Rice more than 12 years ago, we began the Call to Conversation and spent over a year talking with and gathering ideas from Rice constituents from all backgrounds and perspectives about how Rice should evolve in the 21st century. Those conversations led in the fall of 2005 to the Vision for the Second Century (V2C) - a strategic plan that raised our aspirations and informed a decade of progress. We are proud of our progress to date, progress in which faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents and other supporters all played a role. It is time to renew and revitalize our strategic plan to secure a bold and transformative future for Rice.
While the V2C remains relevant and important to our work, much has changed in the past 12 years, both at Rice and in the world of higher education. I am now asking the Rice community to provide input on the future of the university as we contemplate the Vision for the Second Century, part two: the V2C2. We do not know yet whether the V2C2 will be closely based on the V2C, but undoubtedly it will incorporate some elements as well as new ideas and priorities. As appropriate, some ideas shared through this website will be passed on to individual schools and university leaders for consideration in planning processes at the school and department level. Ultimately, the strategic document will help guide our decision making over the next decade and will also set the priorities for the next fundraising campaign.
